Dylan - Chapter Lead for Data Engineer
Dylan is Chapter Lead for Data Engineering at One NZ, focused on building scalable, smarter and practical data solutions. With hands-on experience in modern platforms like Snowflake and dbt, Dylan has driven initiatives to modernize data practices and strengthen governance. Recently, Dylan has been leading efforts to bring AI into data engineering workflows, sharing real-world insights on starting small, balancing innovation with privacy, and applying an "AI first, human when it matters" approach to keep people at the center of critical decisions.
As One NZ moves toward becoming the most AI-enabled telco globally, data engineering is undergoing a fundamental shift. Inspired by the "AI first, human when it matters" approach, we are transforming how data engineers work, starting with the tools they use every day and evolving toward intelligent AI-augmented workflows. This talk shares One NZ's early but meaningful steps toward AI-native data engineering: adopting code assistants, building an AI-ready engineering knowledge base, and reshaping workflows to let AI handle the heavy lifting so humans can focus on solving complex problems and creating value.
