RMIT University's Data Engineering Lead, blending 15+ years of research and analytics excellence
she/her
Dr Sarah Taylor is the Lead Data Engineer at RMIT University. She has over 15 years of experience in both data and research roles. She holds a PhD in Geospatial Science and a postgraduate certificate in software development, and is an expert in Geographic Information Systems and, by extension, in the related tasks of data wrangling and coding. She has published on a mix of topics including social housing, learning analytics, and popular music history. She often works with large datasets and brings together different types of data in novel ways.
RMIT University's data mesh transformation is as much about people as technology. Our wide community of domain experts bring deep subject knowledge but often little experience with cloud platforms, transformations, or version control. This session will share strategies for building momentum rather than entropy in a large organisation, such as: clear SQL guidelines, an engaged community of practice, and utilising modular code scaffolds. Join us for practical insights on establishing guidelines and guardrails, harnessing user energy, creating a foundation for scalable growth, and fostering habits that deliver robust and maintainable data solutions.
